I do hope the proposal does not transition into policy. I had two initial reactions to it: (1) It is in grotesque conflict with the EU's GDPR, and I wondered whether the EC would issue some statement or opinion as the policy is considered (I'm not aware of any such action thus far); it leaves citizens of EFTA countries in a difficult spot to essentially disavow the protections offered in their own jurisdictions. (2) I noted that US citizens living abroad are not included; but on reflection speculate that their social media activity might already be harvested, parsed and analysed, since the right to free speech is never equated with the right to privacy.

What *is* surprising is how quickly the America we *thought* we had has dissolved, like a peppermint stick dropped in a glass of water. And it’s shocking how many people in this country still seem to think, “Well this is just fine” as they sip their lemonade in the fires of Hell. “At least we’re really owning the libs.”
There…that should be enough to cut off all travel permissions for the remainder of my life. 😄☘️
We Canadians have noticed the change of mood in the US since the mango Mussolini ascended to the presidency. Our travel to South of our border has dropped by 40%( unfortunately we still have a lot of business with them). The move toward fascism is accelerating and we are almost in war(trade) mode . We are preparing ourselves for the decline of the American empire.😎🇨🇦
I've written enough dis-favor of this dys-administration in the past 5 days (five weeks; five months, five years; five f**king decades) that they wouldn't let me BACK in if I traveled out. Which I'm not doing, anyway, but;
I am so very, very angry that we have come to this. Thanks for this bit of clarity. We will be the poorer (in spirit) and stupider for having kept our 'neighbors' away. God bless the Irish.
I've seen the four corners of America on 11 separate trips from San Francisco to Mexico, New York to Key West including my J1 in Chicago. More than happy to stay the hell away from that cesspool from now on.
Everyone who's sticking with residency here, out of the pride of our parents in the ideals for which they put on uniforms in defense of, and from sheer stubbornness, needs to read this. And, yes, Trump is stupid, but canny as a jackal, and is surrounded by greed and narcissism and hate of the other sufficient to poison our well for a generation. We have become the nation you all will tell your children not to emulate.
