Why Prof Tony Holohan won't be the next President of Ireland
He's got a lot of Covid baggage.
The venerable Irish Times has an article about potential Presidential candidate Prof Tony Holohan in today’s edition. Professor Holohan said the results of research carried out on his potential candidacy as “encouraging”.
Prof Holohan's reputation became national during the COVID-19 pandemic. As chair of the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET), he directed Ireland’s response to the crisis, providing expert medical advice to the government and the public.
Supporters of Prof Tony Holohan saw fit to get polling company Amárach Research to sniff out his chances. The poll asked 1000 participants to line up their presidential preferences from a shortlist of five hopefuls. The results?
Tony is polling at the same level as former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, a man who had to resign from Fianna Fáil before he was expelled, for “conduct unbecoming of a member of Fianna Fáil.”
